Last Day of 2006

On this last day of 2006, I am rushing to finish an odd kink in my blog theme. It was ready for the world a few hours ago and then… it went wonky.   (´□`。)

* slippers *

So until I get that finished, here is a pic from today of my new fan-snazzy slippers that my friend Blocksom got me for my birthday and that’s my computer in the background with the 1st ever BeSparkly home page. Also, because it appeared in the picture, (giggles) is a sticker set of one of my favorite Japanese pop-stars, the lovely & talented Kimeru.

Due to the angle of the picture, my lower leg looks rather… wide. And for some reason, I feel the need to clarify that the wideness is from the angle and not my leg.    (>_<)

And if I haven't mentioned, in approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes I will turn 30 years old for the very first time (and the very last time, but whatever).

Random Sparkles, Sparklies

~ Foxy Oxy ~

I couldn’t wait to open some of my birthday gifts (birthday in 3 days) so I opened one early… and low and behold, I received a new, sparkly friend ~ Foxy Oxy.

Fox~y Ox~y

I’ve named him Foxy Oxy even though his tag says his name is just Ox. When I first read the tag, I said “Fockshy Ockshy” in a Sean Connery accent and so now, his name is Foxy Oxy and he has become my first BeSparkly mascot. Thank you Tink for the wonderful birthday gift!

Cookies & Turtles

One of my first sparklies was this sugar cookie mix, which drew my eye with its super-fan-snazzy title, “Sparkly Snowflake Cookie Mix.”  How could I resist?  So here is the results of that fruitful sparkly purchase ~ some yummy snowflake cookies (which I’ve already inhaled as though cookies were on the endangered species list).

Sparkly Snowflake Cookies *

Speaking of endangered species… I was reading a book about the beach town my family goes to every summer.  This past summer we trooped down and stood in the hot sun, like the bunch of tourists that we were, to get a quick tour and introduction to the local sea turtles in the sea turtle hospital.  What I didn’t know until this week was that only 1 in 5,000 sea turtles makes it to adulthood!  Eegads that’s some rough odds if you’re a turtle….

While I don’t have the funds (yet) to save the gorillas dying off in Africa (how sad!) I can donate some to the turtles who, by the way, are an endangered species.  So each turtle that makes it to adulthood is a turtle worth saving because they are the ones that reproduce.  I am making my donation right now at their website ~ http://www.seaturtlehospital.org/

YAY! I made my donation… albeit, it was a small donation, but nevertheless, I feel good knowing that I can directly help the turtles since all their donations go to feeding and treating the turtles.

Cookies and sea turtles ~ there’s no better way to wind down the year.

A BeSparkly Christmas

*:..。o○☆゚ Merry Christmas! ゚☆○o。..:*

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… ♪♪   It’s true, the holidays are full of old and new traditions, warm fuzzy sweaters, and glittering wrapping paper hiding all those fun gifts that we can’t wait to get our hands on.  But what if every day was the most wonderful time of the year?  What if every season, every month, every week, we could feel happy, content, and confident?  Wouldn’t that be nice?

Today is a good day to think about what would make you feel confident and content.  Tomorrow is a good day too.  And the day after that.  It doesn’t matter when you sit down and give yourself the time to think, “what is it I want? What would make me sparkle?”   All that matters is that you take the time to do it.

Often we get caught up in being busy or we find ourselves amidst chaos and it’s easy to get sucked into situations that serve little or no benefit into feeling good.  Life comes fast, so take a few moments every day to enjoy yourself in whatever fashion suits you best.

~ gum drops ~

<--- oooooh, gum drops!  We made gingerbread houses last weekend and the gum drops reminded me of my new fascination with dots... colorful, yummy little dots, though I didn't eat any myself, they weren't for us adults.  They look good though, nya?

“Nya” is a fun little sound that one of my favorite characters, Eiji from the Japanese anime Prince of Tennis, makes.  He’s bouncy, smiley, and has a lot of energy.  Of course, he’s like 14 and a cartoon.  But who cares, he’s a good reminder that it’s OKAY to have fun and it’s OKAY to express happiness.  Did you know, some people are afraid to express happiness!?  Or even worse, they don’t really know how.  Get out there and show your happiness!  It’s contagious and everyone wants to be happy.

I’d show you a picture of Eiji, but he’s copyrighted and what not, so I’ll just add a link to the Prince of Tennis page instead (it’s the Japanese site, so it’s in Japanese).  He’s the bubbly red head with a little bandaid on his cheek.  Check it out, Prince of Tennis by clicking on the link and scrollingdown to the last set of characters.  Eiji is the one on the right.

Anywho, enough about that.  Have a Merry, Sparkly Christmas!

Christmas Eve

Today is a Sparkly Day! I woke up this morning - er - afternoon, and made my favorite coffee. And with the best cup of coffee in my hand, I present to you, the sparkliest Christmas card I’ve ever received…

Japanese Christmas Card

Isn’t it nifty? First of all, it’s 3D. Second of all, it’s Mount Fuji with a tiny sled and reindeer. Third of all, instead of snow, it’s Japanese cherry blossom trees made to look like a blanket of snow. And it actually shimmers!!!!

So where did I get such a lovely, sparkly card? I’ve been learning Japanese and a friend in Japan sent it to me for Christmas. I just love it.

One of the reasons I like Japan and learning Japanese is because they have lots of sparkly things. And perhaps, one day BeSparkly will be in Japanese as well.

*-*-*

In other news, I’m almost finished with my BeSparkly blog theme, so look for that around the New Year. Also, my friend Shining Star has posted on her blog! She gets a big hug for being the first of my Sparkle Board friends to “get to it.” Check her out here.

I’m sure I’ll have more to say tomorrow, so until then, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Kwanzaa.

.oO Dots Oo.

Stripes seem to be in this year.  I’ve never been a stripes or dots person, but just like I’ve become a hat person, I am adopting dots into my life to make me feel sparkly!

0o. dots .o0

o~o~o~o~o~o~o

I’m working on a BeSparkly theme for my blog, and you can believe it has dots… and sparkles of course.  =D

Update: As of 1/1/07 the new theme is active on the blog!

Random TV Quote

I was watching that show Numbers and one of the scientist guys said “change how you see yourself and change how you see the world.”  Okay, that’s not an exact quote because I deleted the show from my DVR, but it’s close enough.

Anywho, point is, I’ve decided to see myself as a sparkly person.  =D

Me & My Hat

I spent this week’s Sparkle Budget on this snazzy hat… I’ve never been a hat person, but I’ve decided to give it a whirl.  Why not?  I’ve always thought people who wear hats had more fashion sense than me, so here goes nothing.  Aside from my trusty black baseball hat from highschool & college, here is the first ever picture of me in a hat (unless you count baby hats, or winter hats, or the hat in the previous Sparklies entry, or… okay fine, maybe I’ve worn a lot of hats after all, but this one is the one to start my new hat trend).

Me & My Hat

Do I look fashionable?  No need to answer, your opinion isn’t required because I like my new hat and therefore, it makes me feel sparkly!

It’s a good thing I didn’t decide to try out Lamborghinis… the hat was in my sparkly budget, a Lamborghini… well, I’ll let you know if I decide to get one.  =)

The First Sparkle

Hello everyone,

Welcome to BeSparkly.com! My name is Amy, creator and designer of BeSparkly, and ever since the idea to start BeSparkly flooded into my head, I’ve been excited to share it with the world. Unfortunately, while the idea has been sound, the details haven’t fallen into place yet… and so, the unofficial pre-launch of BeSparkly.com starts with this, The First Sparkle.

I want BeSparkly to be a place where anyone can come and find their sparkle. Sometimes we need to sparkle on the outside and sometimes we need to sparkle on the inside. BeSparkly wants to help you sparkle no matter your place in life.

Since it is a lot faster to show how we sparkle on the outside, I have created a Sparkle Budget for myself. Every week, while I’m running my normal errands and keeping up with life, I dedicate a certain amount of money (or time) to my Sparkle Budget. Since I’ve been collecting my Sparklies for a few weeks now, I’ve put them altogether in one picture for you.

My First Sparklies ~

~ First Sparklies ~

While the things that make me smile and keep me feeling sparkly may not be the same things that make you feel sparkly, I think everyone should have the opportunity to feel sparkly.

This diary is the beginning of BeSparkly.com ~ may you find your sparkle & shine for the world to see.

~Amy, Creator & Founder of BeSparkly
